Day 1: Kampot
Sua s’dei! Welcome to Cambodia!
This morning travel from Phnom Penh to Kampot, we’ll hop in a comfy air-con vehicle and drive south. It’s like a road trip, but way more fun!
On the way, before reaching Kampot we’ll make a stop at Phnom Chhngok. It’s an ancient temple hidden in a cave and it was built for a Hindu god named Shiva.
When we get to Kampot, you’ll see why it’s so special. This place is famous for its yummy pepper. Long ago, fancy French restaurants loved using Kampot pepper in their food. They also grow a stinky fruit called durian here. Some people love it, some hate it – you’ll have to decide for yourself!
In the evening, we’ll go on a boat ride to watch the sunset. The sky turns all sorts of pretty colors! And if we’re lucky, we might see some fireflies twinkling in the dark. It’s like nature’s own light show!

Grown in Cambodia for centuries, Kampot pepper is considered the world’s finest. Today, pepper is also seen as an important symbol of Cambodian regeneration. You’ll taste some pepper ice cream here before heading to Kep Beach for lunch – the nearby Kep markets serve fresh crab cooked to perfection – and eat on the pier overlooking the ocean. After lunch, walk along the coastline and explore the old oceanfront buildings. Kep was once Cambodia’s most popular and prestigious beach town, but the Khmer Rouge destroyed many of Kep’s mansions and villas. The ghostly remains now stand as a silent reminder.
